2009/03/22 – Col de l’Amône, South/West couloir

photo01 (IMG_0662.JPG Kb)

This couloir is not possible to see before the last 100m when accessing from Grands Montets. Maybe is that the reason why Col de l’Amône is less frequent skied than other steep-ski descents around here?

Max at the beginning of the couloir. We took the first Grand Montets lift and did the high traverse under Aiguille Verte(you save one hour). We arrived at the bergschrund at 11.00 o’clock.

Just before arriving to the col. It took us one and a half hour to climb the couloir.

Splendid views over the Pré de Bar chain and North face of Triolet.

View to Switzerland and the classic ski-tour descent of Grand Lui.

photo06 (IMG_0641.JPG Kb)

The couloir is steep at the beginning, about 50° degrees and quite narrow.

After 100m it widens up.

North face of Mont Dolent.

The snow was still hard when we arrived so we waited until 13.30 o’clock before skiing down.

I think it’s rare to ski this couloir from its very top. This time we had a very good snowcover!
