2009/05/03 – Tour Ronde, North face photo01 (IMG_0190.JPG Kb)
You can access Tour Ronde so easy either by Aiguille du Midi and 45min climbing with skins or by the Hellbronner lift, not more than 20min hike. photo02 (IMG_0758.JPG Kb)
We took the 08.10 cabin from Chamonix and we were at the top of the face at 11.00. We Met Mika Merikanto and Rémy Lecluse at the top and we skied the face together. photo03 (IMG_0759.JPG Kb)
The lower couloir before arriveing to the upper snowfield. Here the snow was great! photo04 (IMG_0761.JPG Kb)
Almost at the top of the face. It was lots of tracks so it was easy to climb. photo05 (IMG_0762.JPG Kb)
Andreas making his first turn. Light powder. photo06 (IMG_0763.JPG Kb)
It’s very rarely to see this face in this condition. Usually its bleu “scary” ice here, maybe nice for ice climbing but not for skiing… photo07 (IMG_0764.JPG Kb)
Around 50° degrees steep, maybe a little bit steeper in some places but the face is short and it didn’t feel very committing. One good reason for that was also the amazing snow we had. photo08 (IMG_0765.JPG Kb)
Mika skiing down the lower couloir. Andreas and Rémy below. photo09 (IMG_0767.JPG Kb)
Mika, Andreas and Rémy went straight down the direct route. See the topo below(left line). I went off right and rappelled down the gully. I got company with two ice climbers. Funny… photo10 (IMG_769.JPG Kb)
The face seeing from below. At 13.45 o’clock we’re back in Chamonix and had a nice lunch at Chambre Neuf! photo11 (IMG_0190 - Kopia.JPG Kb)
The left line is the standard skiing route, one 30m rappel. The right line is the direct variant and offers some really nice mixed skiing…
