2009/05/19 – Aiguille du Plan, North face photo01 (plantopo.jpg Kb)
Skiing the mythic and “scary” North face of Aiguille du Plan with Andreas Fransson. Fantastic ambiance… photo02 (IMG_0811.JPG Kb)
Skiing the first turns below the summit of Aiguille du plan. photo03 (IMG_0814.JPG Kb)
The access from Aiguille du Midi to this descent is simple and short by the Midi-Plan ridge. It took us about 2-3 hours to climb here (lots of snow and no tracks before us). photo04 (IMG_0815.JPG Kb)
Some really nice skiing on the upper part of the route. Not very steep here, around 40°-45° degrees. photo05 (IMG_0817..JPG Kb)
Crossing the first band of seracs without using the rope. photo06 (IMG_0820.JPG Kb)
Preparing abalakov anchor above the first band of seracs. photo07 (IMG_0823.JPG Kb)
 Second rappel. photo08 (IMG_0826.JPG Kb)
 Abalakov anchor. photo09 (IMG_0827.JPG Kb)
The second rappel was free hanging from those seracs. photo10 (IMG_0829..JPG Kb)
The traverse right to the last big serac. Big snowfield and quite steep, 50°-55° degrees. It was quite hard snow here. photo11 (IMG_0832.JPG Kb)
The lower serac we got through with four rappels(60m). I might work with three but we didn’t want to take any risks. photo12 (IMG_0838.JPG Kb)
This route was first descended by Jean-Marc Boivin and Laurant Giacomini, July 1977. Snowboarded by Jérôme Ruby and Bruno Gouvy, June 1990. Not skied or snowboarded for many years I guess. photo13 (IMG_0851.JPG Kb)
This photo shows little bit what this route is all about. The surroundings here are quite extreme. It took us about 3h30min to ski this route. From the start of the difficulties to the end of it it’s about 1000vertical meters.
