2009/05/19 – Aiguille du Plan, North face photo01 (212 Kb)
Skiing the mythic and “scary” North face of Aiguille du Plan with Andreas Fransson. Fantastic ambiance… photo02 (715 Kb)
Skiing the first turns below the summit of Aiguille du plan. photo03 (721 Kb)
The access from Aiguille du Midi to this descent is simple and short by the Midi-Plan ridge. It took us about 2-3 hours to climb here (lots of snow and no tracks before us). photo04 (706 Kb)
Some really nice skiing on the upper part of the route. Not very steep here, around 40°-45° degrees. photo05 (788 Kb)
Crossing the first band of seracs without using the rope. photo06 (291 Kb)
Preparing abalakov anchor above the first band of seracs. photo07 (219 Kb)
 Second rappel. photo08 (130 Kb)
 Abalakov anchor. photo09 (153 Kb)
The second rappel was free hanging from those seracs. photo10 (230 Kb)
The traverse right to the last big serac. Big snowfield and quite steep, 50°-55° degrees. It was quite hard snow here. photo11 (221 Kb)
The lower serac we got through with four rappels(60m). I might work with three but we didn’t want to take any risks. photo12 (225 Kb)
This route was first descended by Jean-Marc Boivin and Laurant Giacomini, July 1977. Snowboarded by Jérôme Ruby and Bruno Gouvy, June 1990. Not skied or snowboarded for many years I guess. photo13 (208 Kb)
This photo shows little bit what this route is all about. The surroundings here are quite extreme. It took us about 3h30min to ski this route. From the start of the difficulties to the end of it it’s about 1000vertical meters.
