2006/06/4-5 - Aiguille de la Glière, South face photo01 (IMG_0326.jpg Kb)
Max come up with this genial idea when he was sitting outside his house in les Praz, watching up the Aiguille Rouge with his binoculars . He spotted a line throught the rocks witch he thought was possible to ski. The day after we went up to the Flegère middle station. The cablecar was closed for the season but we hitch-hiked with a 4X4 pickup the first part. From the middle station we had about 480 vertical meters by foot to the top of the Index station. The plan was to spend the night at the Index station and start climbing early in the morning the day after. photo02 (IMG_0312.jpg Kb)
Max little brother and his freinds was helping us carrying the gear. It was my first ski-tour ever with supports from scherpas. photo03 (IMG_0313.jpg Kb)
Aiguille Verte looked really powerful that day and the... photo04 (IMG_0315.jpg Kb)
...Mont-Blanc looked like it usually does! photo05 (IMG_0316.jpg Kb)
After we organized the camp we took a little hike up a couloir to check out the decent little bit closer. photo06 (IMG_0317.jpg Kb)
Damien and Max at the top of the couloir. The couloir was just about 200 vertical meters hight. photo07 (IMG_0318.jpg Kb)
We where alone up here and it felt so quite even if we where in the middle of the Flègere ski area. photo08 (IMG_0321.jpg Kb)
Max ready to go! photo09 (IMG_0323.jpg Kb)
Our camp just below the Index chairlift station. photo10 (IMG_0324.jpg Kb)
Aiguille Pourrie in sunset. It actually still look very skiable. Sad that the ski lifts closing so early in the season. photo11 (IMG_0328.jpg Kb)
We started the climb about 0500. Here is Mimi climbing up one of the norrow parts on the way up. On the way down we skied a few meters left of this photo. photo12 (IMG_0331.jpg Kb)
Traversing the Glière in the morning sun! On the way up I didn't think it was possible to ski down the hole way without any rappels but I was wrong. We did find a way down through the rocks. photo13 (IMG_0333.jpg Kb)
Max climbing the last few meters before reaching the summit ridge. The snow was hardfrozen so it took us just two hours to climb up. photo14 (IMG_0335.jpg Kb)
Glière is 2852 meters hight. It's not a big mountain and not the first mountian to think about ski this late in the season but it was a very pleasant skitour and a nice experience. photo15 (IMG_0337.jpg Kb)
I chosed my Rossignol Squad on this skitour. I felt good. photo16 (IMG_0338.jpg Kb)
We waited about one hour on the top to get softer snow. At 0900 a clock we started the decent. photo17 (IMG_0340.jpg Kb)
Mont-Blanc in the morning sun, say no more... photo18 (IMG_0343.jpg Kb)
A photo showing the face. We had about 500 vertical meters with sections of about 50 degrees down to our camp in perfect springsnow. photo19 (IMG_0346.jpg Kb)
Lunch before skiing down the Combe Lachenal. After the skiing we had about 1000 vertical meters down on foot.(without scherpas...)
