2008/04/25 – Mont Blanc du Tacul, Couloir du Diable

photo01 (lb.JPG Kb)

It was pretty extreme weather conditions on our trip to Mont Blanc du Tacul. Really cold and super windy. The weather wasn’t what meteo-france promised(80% sun…).It was overcast and almost storm in the couloir. This impressive couloir is 800vertical meters with an angle between 50°-55° degrees.

I had the opportunity to ski with TeCrew: Rèmi Peschier, Flo Gex and Jérémi Audibert. Young Chamoniards and steepski specialists…

photo03 (IMG_2910.JPG Kb)

We camped just below the couloir. It was quite cold in the tent. I forgot to bring extra socks…

photo04 (IMG_2911.JPG Kb)

We started the climb at 06.15. The gully at the bottom of the couloir is quite short for the moment. It was easy to pass but the wind complicated it a bit. As you can see on this photo and the next we received snow from the wind right in our faces…

photo05 (IMG_2912.JPG Kb)

It was 1000vertical meters from our tent up to the top of the couloir. We arrived there at 10.00 o’clock.

photo06 (IMG_2913.JPG Kb)

We had all kind of snow quality: powder, crusty, chalk, ice...We did a 60m rappel throught the ice-gully at the bottom of the couloir. We were back at our camp at 12.00 o’clock.(It was so cold that my camera stopped to work after this photo)
